It's exhilarating proving yourself. Not that long ago I'd have been pressing to join in. These days the joy comes from slicing bits off and seeing what happens.

Thank you, Gus, one can always rely upon your unique and pointed insights to spice up any conversation. (As for the curse, it's one I developed myself, melding a few incantations I learned from a bokor friend of mine in America with the magics I learned from my mother, with a twist from the Middle German hexenbloed spells. It actually does not have a formal incantation; it only exists nonverbally (not precisely the right word; the vodou tradition of magic works very differently than ours does), and only works on something nonhuman. But it works very, very well on things that are nonhuman.)

If you believe me full of myself, then of course it must be so. I simply wished to give Our Lord the show of skill He so clearly wished for, rather than forcing him to watch schoolboy and schoolgirl fumbling.
